One deck above and overlooking the pool is the Bimini Bar & Grill, serving burgers, hot dogs, and drinks. For those who prefer a good pint of beer, there's the Pearly King's Pub on deck seven, offering a variety of brews and an always-on ESPN. The Dawn has quite a few areas where you can relax, but it was harder to get away from the crowds than on some other big ships on which we've sailed. The fitness center had a decent number of weight and aerobic machines, a spinning room, a free weight area, and a few fitness classes you could attend free of charge. The spa offers all the basics along with some more interesting options like acupuncture. The Java Cafe is one of the main lounges on the Dawn. Cagney's is located on deck 13 and has a beautiful view over the ocean.

The number of restaurants on the Dawn is pretty shocking given the size of the ship! Amazingly, after the refresh of the Dawn, all of the “go-to” specialty dining restaurants are represented! Norwegian Dawn is a beautiful ship that offers a great vacation experience and feels like the “good old days” of cruising. While it’s an older ship from 2002, it was refurbished in 2016 and the modernization was extremely well done! NCL has modernized older ships in the fleet, and those updates make it feel like you’re cruising on a nearly new ship, just smaller and more intimate and often more affordable than the newer large mega-ships.
We have had better NCL experiences
However, this area of the ship was still under refurbishment while we were on board. The service here, at least during the day, is mediocre to rude. When we asked about the coffee, we were treated to no response, followed by a rude statement about the special coffee beans. On deck 9 you’ll find the Internet Café with about a dozen desktop PCs.
Norwegian Dawn entertainment & onboard activities
No matter what you choose, our specialty dining options feature the tastes you’ll crave. Gamblers have the choice between hundreds of slot machines (from a nickel to $25 per play), 10 Blackjack tables, poker tables, craps, and roulette tables. There are also slot, Texas Hold 'em and blackjack tournaments, as well as gaming lessons and a special ladies' night.
Norwegian Dawn Cruise Reviews
The cabin steward was in twice a day to clean the cabin and provide fresh towels. There was occasional noise from Deck 12 but not enough to become an issue. All things considered, we have no complaints about the cabin. Inside cabins are ‘cozy’ and have about 140 square feet and a large mirror on the wall behind the bed instead of a window. While the cabin may lack windows, the large mirror on the wall behind the bed reflects a world of possibilities 😂😂😂.
Some days you'll find traditional turkey and gravy, other days lamb chops and sea trout or a rib eye with baked potato and Mexican meatballs. The Aqua and Venetian menus change daily, called the chef's specialties. Dessert choices include sorbets, sherbets, pies, and puddings. Outside cabins measure about 150 square feet and have a porthole or picture window above the bed.
Its old bones do create some minor hassles, but the "let's have fun" mentality of passengers and crew and a plethora of options to accommodate all tastes means that nearly everyone has a great time onboard. Serving a wide variety of culinary delights to please every palate, our complimentary dining options include two main dining rooms, a help-yourself buffet and a variety of casual cafés, grills and on-the-go choices. Plus, our Main Dining Rooms offer a menu that changes daily, Chef's Signature Dishes and carefully selected wine recommendations, guaranteeing a different culinary adventure with every visit.

For this reason, I refuse to pay for a spa treatment from a Mandara-branded spa on NCL. But if you’re inclined to have a treatment, they offer everything from unique massage experiences to simple hair cuts. You’ll also find acupuncture, medispa services (botox, etc), and teeth whitening. For kids, there’s a small “water park” known as the T-Rex Pool. It’s in the rear of the ship on deck 13 making it a little difficult to find.
This was a great space to just relax, play some cards, have a drink, and get away from people in general. The atrium itself is also quite lovely to relax, have a coffee and people-watch. Unlike other central atriums on larger ships, it’s quiet and has a nice relaxing vibe to it. It’s more of just a surprise that NCL didn’t take advantage of such a great space for a more popular venue like an atrium bar. The Aqua's dinner menu is the same as at the Venetian, the other main dining room on the ship. The only difference between the two eateries is their decor and size.
For the past two decades, I've experienced exciting voyages across the world, discovering countless ports from the decks of dozens of ships, visiting 40+ countries (and living in some of them for years). I want to share everything I've learned and hope to make your next cruise vacation as enjoyable as possible. Guests are encouraged to wear casual clothing such as jeans, shorts, and t-shirts in public spaces (not swimwear!). At night, guests are free to dress as they like in most areas of the ship.

Norwegian Dawn offers Internet packages starting at $8.25 for 15 minutes up to $100 for 250 minutes. If you don’t want to buy a package, you’ll be charged 75 cents per minute. Norwegian just recently refurbished the nearly 10-year old Dawn, and some of the new bars and restaurants were still closed for renovations at the time of our voyage. The quite zone has a beautiful view of the bow and the ocean behind it. There is also a jacuzzi, in case you get too hot, but don’t want to go to the Oasis pool. This is a pool area just for kids that include water slides and a little fountain.
One immediately noticeable problem with the room is its lack of 110-volt wall plugs. We found just one, which means travelers with cell phones, computers and other electronics will have to juggle their machines to keep them charged. Another problem we see is the size of the closet, which we feel is big enough for one or two people but could be a stretch if three people are sharing a single room. The closet offers several shelves, drawers, and storage. It's also the place to look in case of an emergency, as it stores the life vests. The closet itself is fairly spacious, with plenty of hangers and a built-in shelf, but we don't think it will accomodate three passengers.
Unless you've earned 1,500 "Seabucks" drinks will be charged to your room. Reel Club members can accumulate points and redeem them for gifts. The Dawn’s Club offers a good selection of slot machines as well as card tables, craps, and roulette. There's live music every night, either on the piano or playing the guitar, and sometimes playing trivia games.
The breakfast in the Garden Café is very basic but there are a lot of choices. The eggs benedict was cold and the hollandaise sauce was not very good. The yogurt is nothing special and the bacon a little soggy.
The price varies based on cruise length, but we were offered a pass for $139/person for a 7 day cruise prior to embarkation… which is quite a good deal compared to some of the larger and newer ships! Day passes are available as well (check for current pricing). Unfortunately for Dawn, the ship can't shake its outdated layout and old finishings. The galley on Deck 6 means passengers can't walk from the Venetian Restaurant aft through the midship Gatsby's Bar and surrounding restaurants to the casino and theater forward. We never failed to go down the wrong set of elevators or stairs when looking for the Deck 6 main dining venues.
